VU Supported eLearning Systems and Software
Where a system and/or application is fully supported, the VU ITS service desk, in the event of technical failure (by VU or vendor), will be backed up for data retention and have training support available.
These applications are not supported by the VU ITS Service Desk from a technical perspective, however, are supported by the Connected Learning Team with regard to training in the use of the tools and the applications that they are appropriate for.
eLearning applications and systems that are not supported by VU should be used with caution. VU is not able to provide staff or student training and support in the use of the system. VU will not provide technical support in the event of system malfunction. VU will not backup or retain any data entered by either staff or students. VU cannot ensure privacy or security of student data.
Note: Staff should where possible use supported systems and applications, especially where student data is involved or could be at risk. This includes personal data and assessment information. Where data is not to be stored on VU systems, due diligence is required to ascertain the privacy and security of data.
Where there is a demonstrated need to use a non-supported eLearning tool, staff are encouraged to discuss this with the Connected Learning Team to determine whether a university-wide solution can be achieved.
VU Collaborate (D2L Brightspace)
VU Collaborate is the Learning Management System (LMS) supported by Victoria University. Staff are not permitted to use an alternative LMS for online/blended delivery.
Echo360 Active Learning Platform - Lecture Capture
Echo360 ALP Lecture Capture System should be used for the distribution of lecture recordings to students. No other lecture capture system should be used by staff.
Echo360 Active Learning Platform - Personal Capture
The use of Personal Capture with Echo360 ALP is recommended, however alternative systems for personal / screen capture may be used when advanced editing is required.
ScreenFlow is recommended for personal and screen capture on the Mac OSX when more advanced editing is required. Support and advice can be provided by the Connected Learning Team. Software is available in The Hive (FP A202). Technical support is not provided by the ITS Service Desk.
Camtasia is recommended for personal and screen capture on the PC when more advanced editing is required. Training, support and advice is provided by the Connected Learning Team. Software is available in The Hive (FP A316). Technical support is not provided by the ITS Service Desk.
YouTube / Cloud video Systems
Staff should be aware of the potential loss of Intellecual Property/ownership using cloud based hosting systems.
Campus Pack Blog & Wiki
Campus Pack Blog & Wiki are fully integrated into the VU Collaborate LMS and can be linked to the student grading system. Campus Pack is the recommended and supported Platform.
WordPress is not a supported eLearning system.
Note: Should only be used if hosted on VU web servers.
Turnitin Feedback Studio (Originality Check)
Turnitin Feedback Studio is fully integrated with VU Collaborate and should be the only originality checking system utilised to ensure a consistent student experience.
Turnitin Feedback Studio (QuickMarks/GradeMark)
Turnitin Feedback Studio's QuickMarks tool (was called GradeMark) tools permit the online evaluation of assignments through various innovative functions. It’s recommended that QuickMarks tool is used when evaluating student assignments with all other grading features completed through VU Collaborate.
Respondus is now a VU supported/owned software. Training, support and advice is provided by the Connected Learning Team.
WebEx is fully integrated with VU Collaborate and should be used as the primary Virtual Classroom environment for students.
Skype / GoToMeeting / Adobe Connect
Alternative Virtual Classroom software may be used where the features of WebEx are not sufficient.
VU Collaborate EPortfolio
VU Collaborate ePortfolio is the recommended portfolio tool for students and integrates fully with the LMS.
PebblePad is no longer a VU supported/owned software.
Mahara & cloud based systems

The interactive H5P software is open source software integrated with VU Collaborate. Technical support of the framework is not within the control of VU, however training and support is provided by the Connected Learning Team.
Interactive content development tool with SCORM integration. Training, support and advice is provided by the Connected Learning Team. Software is available in The Hive (FP A202). Technical support is not provided by the ITS Service Desk.
Crazy Talk 2/ Animator 2
2D and 3D video animation development application. Support and advice can be provided by the Connected Learning Team. Software is available in The Hive (FP A202). Technical support is not provided by the ITS Service Desk.
Adobe Creative Suite
A standard suite of tools supported by VU (Photoshop, Dreamweaver, Illustrator).
Not recommended as not compatible with mobile devices.
Echo 360 Active Learning Platform
Provides mobile based polling from lecture theatres as well as through published videos.
Polling for virtual classroom environment.
This platform will allow various stakeholders to obtain and analyse real-time data from VU Collaborate to facilitate timely evidence-based reports.
