Using a Campus Pack Podcast

A Campus Pack Podcast allows students to listen to learning content or instructions anywhere, at any time. Students can also create their own podcasts.

Note: We recommend using Chrome or Firefox with Campus Pack. If you are using Safari, you may get a login error: remember to enable cookies in preferences to avoid this.

Below are the steps to using a Campus Pack Podcast:

 

Step One: Access the Campus Pack Podcast


1. To access a Campus Pack Podcast within VU Collaborate, login to VU Collaborate, and go to your space. Click on Learning Space.

 

Enter the desired VUC space and click on learning space located on the navbar

 

2. Within Content, navigate to the podcast that you have created.

Note: For details on creating a podcast, see Creating a Campus Pack Podcast.

3. Click on the relevant podcast and this will open in a new screen.

Step Two: Add a Banner and Edit Details


1. In the Podcast screen, click Settings.

2. From the drop-down menu, select Settings. Here, you can choose to edit the podcast Title or Description to communicate what the podcast offers to students. You can also choose a Banner for better visual engagement.

3. Add the information you want to, and check the tickbox at the bottom to Make Available to students.

4. Click Save at the bottom of the screen.

Step Three: Add a New Episode to Campus Pack Podcast


A Campus Pack Podcast can have as many episodes as you like.

 

1. To get started, click on New Episode. A pop-up window will appear.

2. Give your new episode a title, then click the blue New Episode button to create the episode.

A new screen with all the parameters will appear. In this screen, you can edit the title and add media.

 

3. Once you're ready to add media, choose if you want to Record Media (your voice and/or other sounds) straight from your computer, Upload a media file from your desktop, or place a Link to External Media already on the web.

 

3.1 Record Media in Campus Pack Podcast

 

If you select Record Media, a pop-up window will appear asking to use your microphone.

1. Click Allow to let Campus Pack use your default microphone.

2. Click the Record button to begin your recording. When you are finished recording, click Stop. If you need to take a break while recording, click Pause.

3. Write a Description for your new episode. You may want to add a transcript of your new audio (recommended for accessibility requirements).

4. Using the tickbox at the bottom of the screen, choose whether to make Available to students. You can come back and change this later, or choose a scheduled time to display the episode.

5. When you're finished, scroll to the bottom of the screen and click Save & Exit.

3.2 Upload a Previously Recorded File to Campus Pack Podcast

 

1. Click Upload Media to add a file from your computer.

2. Click Choose File to open the file browser.

3. Find the file you want to upload, and click Open.

4. Write a Description for your new episode. You may want to add a transcript of your audio (recommended for accessibility requirements).

5. When you're finished, scroll to the bottom of the screen and click Save & Exit.

3.3 Link to an External File on the Web

 

1. Click Link to External Media to create a link to the new episode.

Note: When you are adding a new episode from an external link, the link will only work if the source is publicly available online. You won't be able to link to private files.

2. Type or paste the permanent link to media you have chosen into the field.

3. Click Check Link. If a green tick appears next to the link, the link is available and will appear in your episode.

4. Write a Description for your new episode. You may want to add a transcript of your audio (recommended for accessibility requirements).

5. When you're finished, scroll to the bottom of the screen and click Save & Exit.

Step Four: View and Test Podcast Episodes


1. Click Episodes to see a list of all created podcast episodes.

2. Click the name of the podcast episode you wish to listen to, then click play.

Note: Podcast episodes appear in reverse chronological order by default. The most recent episode appears at the top. This can be changed in the Settings to your preference.

Step Five: Edit or Delete Podcast Episodes


As an instructor or convenor in a space, you have the permission to edit or delete any episode. Students can only edit or delete their own episodes.

 

1. Click on the episode you wish to edit.

2. On the upper right-hand side of the screen, you can click either the blue Edit button or the red Delete button.

3. If you click Edit, you will return to the edit screen and can change the Title, Description and Availability. Once you have made the changes you want to, click Save & Exit.

4. If you click Delete, a pop-up will appear. Click OK to delete the episode.

Step Six: Prevent Students from Creating Podcasts


As a convenor or instructor, you can change permissions to prevent or allow students creating episodes

 

1. In the main podcast view, click Settings.

2. From the drop-down, select Permissions. This will open up the Permissions menu.

3. In the Permissions menu, there are three tabs: Owners, Authors and Viewers. Click on Authors to view who can create episodes.

4. Here you can see the authors. The default is – (XXXXX) Space/Unit Name – All Students. To prevent students from being able to create their own episodes, select it and click Remove button

5. You can choose other users (for example, sessional staff) to create episodes under Add Authors if you like. When you're done, scroll to the bottom of the page and click Save & Exit to put your changes into effect.
