Self-Serve Studio

Self-Serve Studio

The Self Serve Studio is located at Footscray Park Campus A316. The space can be used to record a variety of videos and is supported by the Connected Learning Video Production Team.

The Hive at Footscray Park

Equipment available

The Hive (A202) is equipped with hardware (both PC and Mac) and specialist software to help you with:

  • Screen and personal video capture
  • Basic and advanced video editing and processing
  • Professional audio recording and editing
  • Creating interactive learning objects
  • Photographic and graphic art production
  • Basic animation production and editing

To access the Hive, please contact the Connected Learning Team to arrange a brief induction and familiarisation session.

If you need help, the Hive at Footscray Park is staffed every day by one of our eLearning Designers or Students as Staff. You can also book a one-on-one consultation session at any time. Please email the Connected Learning Team to request a session.

For staff working on Block Model projects and not based at Footscray Park, we have some laptops equipped with multimedia software available for loan.

For your information, PC laptops can be installed with:

  • Camtasia – for screen capture and personal video capture with advanced editing capability
  • Roxio Video Editor – for video editing and video compression
  • Adobe Creative Suite - for graphic design, photographic editing and web page creation. 

VU staff can hire laptops for a maximum of one week.

To book a laptop, please do the following:

  1. Complete the online Equipment Booking Request Form
  2. A Connected Learning staff member will contact you to discuss your request.

VU Collaborate Training

VU Collaborate Training

A range of training options is available for learning how to use VU Collaborate and other blended learning tools and strategies, including Drop-In Sessions, Online Consultations and Group Training Sessions.

Drop-In Days

These days do not require bookings and provide personalised, face-to-face support for all aspects of VU Collaborate. Upcoming sessions are listed on the Training Calendar.  They are held at The Hive (A202) in Footscray Park daily, in St Albans on Mondays in 7216 (back of the library) and in City Flinders 907 on Thursdays from 9:00 to 16:00.


Workshops are held regularly on various campuses, many of these operate outside of key teaching dates so you have the chance to attend.  See the Training Calendar for when and where these sessions are and to book in. 

Bespoke workshops can be organised for groups of 5 or more people on any aspect of using VU Collaborate or other Blended Learning Tools (e.g. learn how to use some technology, troubleshoot a strategy).

Online Support

Online support consultations are daily 30-minute individual sessions conducted over the phone and online.  You can be on any campus, even at home, to make use of these as long as you have a phone and computer. Book a consultation and a staff member will call you a few minutes beforehand to share the screen and work through any questions you have on VU Collaborate.
