Linking a Rubric to a Learning Space Module

This guide will take you through how to link a rubric to the content in the Learning Space so that students can view the assessment rubric.

Option One: Add a Quicklink to a Rubric on the Assessment Information module


1. In your unit space on the navbar select (1) Learning Space, 
from the side menu select the (2) Assessment Information module and then click inside the (3) description text area

2. Place the (1) cursor in the description area where you want to include a link to the rubric,
then select the (2) Insert Quicklink icon from the toolbar.

3. Scroll down and select Rubrics, then locate and click on a rubric name to select.
In this example, the Assessment 1 rubric is selected.

4. The (1) rubric link will now be displayed in the location you have chosen.
To add other rubrics, click to select the next location and repeat the process.

5. After you complete, click on Update to apply changes.

Option Two: Add a Quicklink to a Rubric on an Assessment page


Go to the Assessment Information module

1. In your unit space on the navbar select Learning Space, then from the side menu select the Assessment Information module.

Here, you can create Assessment pages to provide instructions and details for each assessment.

2. Click on the New tab and select New Document.

3. When creating a new document, you have an option to select an existing HTML content template. These templates provide a good content structure to ensure that online and accessibility standards are met. For example, you can Select a Document Template, from the selection list, or Browse for a Template, to search for another template already in the space.

For these instructions, we will select a Document Template.

Enter a (1) title name, then from the (2) Select a Document Template dropdown list, select (3) 03. Assessment Page.

4. In your HTML template, place your cursor in the area where you need to insert the rubric link.

With Assessment Page, go to the Assessment Criteria section and select and delete the text (1) Insert Quicklink to Rubric Here, then select (2) Quicklinks.

5. Select the (1) Rubrics, then (2) choose the rubric that you want to have linked.

6. The Rubric Quicklink (1) Assessment 1: Creative Work in blue, shows up with the rubric title.

7. When complete, select Save and Close.

How do students view the rubric?

Then select the (1) rubric link under the Assessment Criteria section.

Students can also right-click on the rubric title and then select Open link in a new tab, so the rubric presents as the picture below.

Why my students cannot access the assessment rubric


Before adding assessment rubrics to your Learning Space Module, ensure that the rubric is visible and accessible to students. Follow the steps below to check if your rubric is visible:

Check if:

  • the Rubric Visibility setting is set as Visible to students. 
  • the rubric is attached to the assessment Dropbox or Discussion
  • if the Assessment Dropbox or Discussion is visible to students
  • If it's a group submission, check that students have been enrolled into the associated groups.

1. Navigate to Rubrics from the Assessments tab.

2. Click on the rubric name that you would like to edit.

3. In the Edit Rubric window, scroll down and expand the Options at the bottom of the page. Then, in the Rubric Visibility setting, make sure the Rubric is visible to students is selected.

1. Ensure both relevant dropboxes and discussions are not hidden from the students. You can check them through the eye icon.

2. You can change this setting by clicking on the dropdown option next to the assessment name and selecting Make Visible to Users.

(d) If it's a group submission, check that students have been enrolled into the associated groups

1. To check if your students have been located in a group, access Groups from Communication.

2. Within Manage Groups, select the relevant group category from the dropdown.

3. Click on the numbers under Members column to view the student enrolment details in each group.
